In January, 2005
Curiosity, my cat
companion of 15 years, left this good green earth. She was a sweet
and sacred gift that I will always treasure.
Her influence is still with me as I look back over
several of my creations that focused on cats. Like "Green Eyes
on Ham" , which is one of my favorites. It emerged
from a sequence of events starting with a gift of ham from a friend at
Christmas time. As "Curiosity"
sat with her bright, green eyes glued on the ham, my husband commented "Green eyes on
Ham." . At that point an image popped up in my brain. I raced
to my sketch pad to capture the lines as they assembled themselves..
After her death I was fortunate to have a creative
project to work on that was completely
about cats. Dena Harris, my friend and "Writer
Extraordinaire", asked me to
illustrate her book of humorous cat stories. I couldn't believe
it. What a JOY!!! To be immersed in creating nothing but
cat images for weeks at a time, was the salve that my suffering
soul needed. It was a healing opportunity to help me with my grief.
Now the book titled "Lessons in Stalking: Adjusting
to Life with Cats" is complete. In addition to the book,
Dena and I have selected several illustrations to offer as note cards.
